The Zan Stewart Band plays a mix of originals and classic jazz pieces and timeless pop standards. The whole idea is to groove, get a good feeling going, have a party while still playing deeply musical music.
Zan Stewart: I was a longtime jazz journalist for LA Times, other publications, while developing my skills as a player. I have shared bandstands with many giants, including drummer Jimmy Cobb, guitarist Dave Stryker, and tenorman Joe Lovano. As a writer, I met many of the greats: Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, and Cobb, to name just three. I have been a full-time musician leader in the Bay Area since 2011. I released our band's debut recording, The Street is Making Music, in March, 2014.
