In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month, we have dedicated this evening to give tribute to KCSM staff and DJs who have kept the flame of jazz going despite the turmoil in the industry. Their love for jazz and service to their listeners are intangible contributions to Bay Area music and culture.
The ever popular mainstay Al Molina Jazz Sextet has been playing at 7 Mile House for nine straight years now. Christened 7 Mile's "Godfather of Jazz", Al has been responsible for initiating and cultivating 7 Mile House's jazz program and ensuring its highest standards of musicianship.
With more than 65 years experience under his belt, Al has played with world renowned jazz musicians such as Eddie Henderson, Pete Escovedeo, Red Holloway, Colin Bailey, Monte Budwig, Jack Sheldon, Bill Watrous, Louis Gasca, George Cables, Merv Griffin, Larry Vuckovich, Eddie Marshall, Tootie Heath, Mark Isham, Tom Harrell, Jessica William, Flip Nunez, Al Plank, Johnny Griffin and Al Porcino.
The band features Al Molina on trumpet, Vince Lateano on drums, Peter Barshay on bass, Al Bent on trombone, Tod Dickow on tenor sax, and Larry Chinn on piano playing songs by Chick Woody, Horace Silver, Chet Baker, Blue Mitchell and more.
