It is with sadness and disbelief that we share the news of Regina Abuyuan’s unexpected passing at the age of 45, on November 29, 2018.
Regina was the co-author and editor for the award-winning book ‘See You at the 7: Stories From the Bay Area’s Last Original Mile House’. She was also Vanessa Garcia’s cousin, and the loss has left a hole in all of our hearts.
We thank you Regina/Gina for your wit, dedication, love, laughter, and words; forever imprinted in 7 Mile House history.
Regina Abuyuan was a Manila-based writer, award-winning editor, development communications consultant, and educator.
Her recent projects and wins include:
• “See You at the 7: Stories from the Bay Area’s Last Original Mile House” (USA) —12th National Indie Excellence Awards (2018) for Biography-Historical; Finalist, NIEA, New Non-Fiction; Finalist, 8th International Book Awards (2018) for United States History
• "Bayuhay: The Story of MCA-P" (PH) —Gold Anvil for Publications, 52nd Anvil Awards (2017)
• "Agam: Filipino Narratives on Uncertainty and Climate Change" (PH) —Gintong Aklat Award (2016) and 34th National Book Awards (2015) for Literature in English
Her communications, editorial, and writing inclinations were wide, covering human interest, business, climate, maritime, parenting, fiction, and copyediting for advertising agencies. She also edited technical papers and consulted for government and international groups such as Bases Conversion Development Authority, ASSIST Asia, and Oxfam GB.
She was also an advocate of non-traditional learning and was managing director of Blended Learning Center-Manila, an educational organization that provides homeschooling support and enrichment programs for progressively-schooled children.
Regina was chief editor of FAS Maritime, and wrote prolifically on a wide range of subjects for different publications.
She also co-ran a pub, Fred's Revolucion, a popular dive located in the bohemian enclave of Cubao Expo, and historic Escolta, Manila.
