Adobo Cook-Off for a Cause 2019 Results & Recap
The 7 Mile House Adobo Cook-Off for a Cause 2019 Champion is…
Paola Tiano
Featured here with her winning adobo recipe, along with why her adobo is special:
“This is not your Lola's adobo! I sous vide pork belly for 24-hours and let it swim in a rich, soy-vinegar glaze topping it off with chili-garlic oil. Inspired by my Lola and Mom, my adobo is a love letter to all Filipinos in America: an homage to where we came from and where we are now, with every bite that tastes exactly like Home.
Cooking is my happy place and feeding people is how I express love. Immigrating from the Philippines, I brought with me my love of Filipino food and learned to infuse it with innovative cooking techniques and ingredients familiar to both countries I call Home. I am sharing my story on a plate, and I hope you enjoy -- Maraming, Maraming Salamat Po!”
On July 27, 2019, over 150 folks attended the 3rd annual Adobo Cook-Off for a Cause at 7 Mile House. The sun was bright and shining, as people lined up to get a taste of each of the adobo recipes from our six contestants. This year’s cook-off beneficiary was Entrepinays, an online community of Filipina/Pinay entrepreneurs (aka #Entrepinays) dedicated to building sisterhood in the hustle. The funds raised specifically goes towards the Entrepinay Summit Scholarship Program.
We want to thank our contestants as well for bringing their A(dobo) game so deliciously and for feeding our community. Folks enjoyed different variations of the beloved and iconic Filipino dish: traditional, Italian-style, shredded and so much more.
From 11am-1pm, people enjoyed unlimited rice and unlimited Red Horse Beer with their adobos. After everyone had their fill, the votes were in—Paola Tiano won with the most number of votes!
