2019's Top 7 Highlights at the 7
2019 was another amazing year for us at 7 Mile House, as we continued to serve up our patrons, customers and community with things that go beyond food—with unique experiences, live music performances and partnerships that sought to grow and strengthen our communities.
There were many moments that made this year another momentous one. From the staff who worked tirelessly every day to keep everyone fed and happy, to the musicians who soothed and serenaded six nights a week and to our head boss who steered the 7 Mile House ship every day, here’s a look back at this year’s greatest moments.
1. Jazz Fest (MAY 2019)
True to its love for jazz and live music, 7 Mile House kicked off the second annual Jazz Fest in May with an expanded offering.
“The great cultural and ethnic diversity of the Bay Area is definitely on display at these festivals. The attendees were definitely witness to the art form presented at its best.” —Dennis Smith Bassist, Five Ten

2. ADOBO COOK-OFF
On July 27, 2019, over 150 folks attended the 3rd annual Adobo Cook-Off for a Cause at 7 Mile House. The sun was bright and shining, as people lined up to get a taste of each of the adobo recipes from our six contestants.
This year’s cook-off beneficiary was Entrepinays, an online community of Filipina/Pinay entrepreneurs (aka #Entrepinays) dedicated to building sisterhood in the hustle.
The funds raised specifically goes towards the Entrepinay Summit Scholarship Program.

3. 7 MILE HOUSE ON CHECK PLEASE, BAY AREA
This year, 7 Mile House was featured on KQED’s Check Please, Bay Area as nominated by Chef Ava. We had so much fun shooting the segment with the KQED team, and it’s always a pleasure to share the restaurant’s history, experience and delicious food with the Bay Area community.

4. FILIPINO-AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH
Filipino-American History Month is always a big month at 7 Mile House and this year was no exception.
With special food offerings like the Bloody Manang (Filipino version of the Bloody Mary), Ensaymada Burger made in partnership with Valerios’s Bakeshop and more, we were able to pay homage to our Filipino culinary roots. We also featured guest chefs like Paola Tiano, champion of the Adobo Cook-off and Art Concordia, the creator of the famous Filipino Cioppino.
We also had our inaugural Ube Bake-off, where participants got to share their ube recipes to the 7 Mile House. With its popularity, it will definitely be a mainstay of our FAHM offering next year.
And of course, we could not have made FAHM a success without the plethora of featured Filipino bands like LP, Playlist, Good Reasons, Carlos Zialcita and Dakila.
5. AL MOLINA & THE JAZZ SEXTET’S 10TH ANNIVERSARY
Last December 3rd, 7 Mile House celebrated the tenth year anniversary of Al Molina and the Jazz Sextet surrounded by family and friends, patrons and fans of the local jazz favorite.
Together with Al Bent (trombone, Tod Dickow (tenor sax), Larry Chinn (piano), Peter Barshay (brass) and Vince Lateano (Drums), the Al Molina Jazz Sextet has been a fan favorite ever since the fateful day in 2009 when Al first met Vanessa Garcia, owner of 7 Mile House.

6. Star of the Bar Cocktail Competition with Infanta Lambanog
On December 9, 2019, 7 Mile House together with Infanta Lambanog kicked off the first annual Star of the Bar Cocktail Competition, where guests got a taste and experienced different craft cocktail recipes from competing bartenders.
With the crowd as the judge in this live action bartending competition, attendees scored the bartenders’s drinks on taste, presentation, creativity and the bartender’s showmanship.

7. San Francisco 49ers
And of course, 7 Mile House will always be home to the San Francisco Niners as we spent countless hours cheering on our home team!
